A2 Forward and Backward Stride and Choctaw Turn
Gaston Schaeffer does a warm-up using all of the edges and then teaches the fundamentals of the forward and backward stride. He then teaches the Choctaw turn which is a much more efficient transition turn from forward to backward than we teach hockey players. The benefit of this pivot is that the player keeps the skating momentum.
If skating to the right the weight is on the right leg and the left skate goes behind at an angle to the turn, the player transfers the weight to the left leg and does a crossover.
