T2 – Breakout vs. Aggressive Forecheck - Pro
Key Points:
Defenseman has to skate back for the puck and try to beat the first forechecker. F1 must be a passing option on the boards and F2 must support low and slow for a pass from the D1, a touch back or chip.
Description:
Part One: T2 - F Rims - D Off Boards
1. Defense at one end and Forwards at the other end.
2. Defense pick up a dump in, fake to the inside and tight turn to the middle between dots.
3. Forwards skate in and swing facing the puck for a pass from coach then goalies.
4. Coach pinch on both sides and forward skate to the inside or chip puck out.
5. Goalies rim the puck and F pick it up and read coaches pinch.
6. Forward face the puck and protect it from the pinch.
Part Two: T2 - F Pass to Low C - D BO Options
1. D breakout do options, tight turn, counter, wheel.
2. F1-F2 leave from the dots and coach rim the puck.
3. Coach 2 pinch and F1 touch back to F2 who supports low and slow.
4. F1-F2 skate over the blue line, turn back and attack 2-0.
Part Three: T2 - D Get Shot Through - 2 F BO vs. Pinch
1. D1 drag and shoot missing F1 at the point, F2 screen.
2. Coach rim the puck and F1 pick up the rim and F2 support low and slow.
3. D1 pinch and F1 box him out and share pass to F2.
4. F1 either touch back or chip pass.
5. Repeat on the other side.

B202 - 4 x 2 Chaos Overspeed – College
Key Points:
Overspeed with the puck. Go faster than usual making moves and cutbacks. Pass quickly always facing the partner.
Description:
1. Four players from each end leave and puck handle in the neutral zone as fast as possible.
2. On the whistle pass to the first player in the line you started in.
3. Break into two groups of two.
4. Pass quickly in the neutral zone.
5. One the whistle pass to the line you came from.
6. Goalie training with the coach at one end.

Key Points:
Move when you get the puck, forward, backward, tight turn, fake and go back.
Description:
1. Practice taking a pass and moving the puck to miss the defender with the shot.
2. Take passes in the neutral zone then skate and return pass.
3. Agility skate around obstacles and shoot.
4. At one end skate around an obstacle protecting the puck and shoot while skating.

D100 Two Second Game - College
Key Points:
Great game for quick and close puck support and facing the play with the puck. Players must switch right away from offense to defense to loose puck and constantly change roles from, 1-puck carrier, 2-puck support, 3-check puck carrier, 4-cover away from the puck.
Description:
1. Play a full ice game of 3-3, 4-3, 4-4, 5-4, 5-5, 6-5 with the extra players on the bench.
2. Play 40-45" shifts and pass back to your goalie when the coach whistles for a change or players change on their own.
3. Players can only have the puck for 2" and must make a play, gain a zone or shoot.
4. Possession from first touching the puck for over 2" leave the puck for the other team.
5. Encourage talking, facing the puck, always give a target, skate into passes and get open.
6. Scoring team must skate back to the red line before forechecking.
* Don't blow the whistle if they have started shooting. Start time when the goalie gets puck. Keep score and losing or winning have a consequence.
* An option is to pass back to your goalie on the whistle.
* Another option is to give another 2" with the puck if the player makes an escape move.
* The 2" rule can be used in SAG cross or half ice games as well.

Key Points:
Make hard passes, give a target, keep skating while making plays, skate between dots with the puck, follow shots for rebounds, stop at the net, screen.
Description:
Start at both ends with players on each side of the net and pucks in all four corners.
1 – D1 start by skating up and back get a puck and bank pass behind the net to D2. D1 goes to the corner.
2 – D2 pass to F1 breaking along the boards.
3 – F1 skates to the big ice between the dots and pass to F2. D2 follow then circle back to the corner.
4 – F2 skate down and shoot then skate to corner. F1 skate around the middle circle for a pass from D2.
5 – D1 bump a puck to D2 who skates between the dots and pass to F1 who skates down ice and shoots.
6 – D2 then follow the play up the ice and get a pass from F2 in the corner then drag and shoot – F1-F2 screen.

T3 – Continuous Angling Along the Boards – College M
Key Points:
Approach the puck carrier from slightly behind angling toward the back of the inside shoulder with the stick on the puck and body on body. Skate through the hands with the inside leg in front and pick up the loose puck.
Description:
1 - Players line up just outside the blue line near the dots, puck are in each corner.
2 - F1 leaves and picks up a puck in the corner then skates up the wide lane.
3 - F2 follows from slightly behind and steers F1 along the boards.
4 - F2 approaches at the back shoulder with 'body on body and stick on the puck.'
5 - F2 angle checks F1 with the inside leg in front then picks up the loose puck.
6 - F2 skates into the slot and shoot - rebounds.
7 - F2 picks up a puck from the opposite corner and F3 becomes the checker.
* Repeat alternating sides.
* Do this drill at both ends.

T2 - B202 - Four Chamber Attack – College
Key Points:
Attack on the rush has moved from the Offensive Triangle to the Middle Drive and now at the higher levels the Four Chambers. Instead of having a 1-1 on the strong side the offense creates a 2-1 on the widest defender. The player in the middle lane goes hard to the net and the fourth attacker trails high on the weak side. This is one way to practice attacking with the 4 Chambers.
Description:
A. Players are in two lines facing each other across the neutral zone.
B. Stage one: 1 pass across to 2 and pivot in outside chamber for a return pass, skate in and shoot.
C. Stage two: 1 pass to 2 outside and join attack in the faceoff dot chamber.
D. Stage three: 1 pass to 2 and join while 3 from the other line goes hard to the net in the middle chamber.
E. Stage four: 1-2-3 repeat while 4 joins as a trailer down the weak side chamber.
F. Fifth attacker support from the point.
G. Repeat the other way.
* Players 1-2 attack the widest defender and can cross and drop, 1 skate to the inside and pass to the outside to 2 who crosses and takes the ice behind, 1 chip and 2 chase, etc. Important that 2 skates hard and takes a defender with him.
*In the drill this happens at both ends as shown in the video.

Key Points:
Extra player wait outside the blue line and the coach shoot in a puck when needed. Give close support to the puck carrier and make the play right away. Play from 1-1 to 4-4 or with uneven numbers like 3-2.
Description:
1. Cross ice game of 2-2 and both teams have two Jokers behind their net.
2. Defenders must regroup with a Joker behind the net to be on offense.
3. Jokers can either pass or shoot.
4. Play 30’ and Jokers rotate as players, players out and new players become Jokers.
5. Either leave the puck on the whistle or pass to your Joker who now is a player.
6. Keep score and losing team skates or some other consequence.
*Modified rules like only 2” with the puck can be added.
*A rule like Jokers must shoot works on screening, tipping, boxing out, etc.

Players must recognize the game situation they are in and play accordingly. Everyone plays both forward and defense and they must FIO – Figure It Out.
Description:

2. Coach either yells out a number or blows a number of whistles and that many players play.
3. Shifts 30-40”.
4. Touch up at the red line if you score.
5. If scored on get the puck out of the net and attack.
6. Keep score.

Key Points:
In the middle the two players can simply pass, or cross and drop, or cross-drop-pass, one skate backward, etc..
Description:
1. Players start from the four corners.
2. One player leave from each corner at one end, skate down the middle lane exchanging passes.
3. Pass to a player at either corner who drive skates hard to the middle lane with the puck.
4. Three players fill the three lanes and weave by passing and following their pass.
5. Finish the rush will a shot on net and all three crash for a rebound.
6. The next two players follow the rush and regroup with a player at the far end.

T4 – 1-3 Penalty Kill vs. 1-3-1 PP – U18
Key Points:
F1 forecheck hard on a dump in. Closest player pressure right away. Take away time and space with a good stick and toe caps facing the puck. D take away the quick wide pass and protect the middle when they enter the zone. F1 pressure down if you have speed.
Description:
1. Start with a low triangle of F2-D1-D2 and F1 above F2.
2. The two forwards F1-F2 on top rotate in a tandem.
3. The two defensemen D1-D2 cover one side each in the low slot.
4. High forward F1 is very aggressive and forces the mid-point attacker and pursues the first pass and sometimes the next passes if he has speed.
5. The second forward F2 covers the player in the middle of the 1-3-1.
6. F2 switches with F1 and pressures the puck when it is rotated away from F1.
7. D1-D2 defend from the net out and one D1 move to pressure a low puck on his side and D2 cover net front.
8. D1 read pressure or contain on low pucks to his side and D2 on his side.
9. They leave the low forward to the goaltender.
10. On a face-off D1 cover the wing on the boards.
11. F1-F2 Forecheck in a tandem and backpressure the puck carrier while F2 protect the middle, D1-D2 cover the wings.
12. F2-D1-D2 protect the middle when the puck enters the zone.
13. F1 or F2 pressure the point hard leading with the stick and good defensive skating.
14. Shrink the zone with F1-D1-D2 and F2 in front on low board battles.

T4 – 1-3 Penalty Kill Rotation
Key Points:
Forwards play in an I with one forcing the puck at the point and on the sides. The defense play low on each side. When the puck is low play and aggressive low press. Pressure any bobbled puck or poor possession. Good defensive skating in straight lines with stick on the puck and toe caps facing the puck.
Description:
Forwards Rotation:
1. All 4 defenders spin and then orient themselves into a 1-3.
2. Attackers set up in a high umbrella and move the puck starting at the mid point.
3. F1 at the top force the mid point and chase a pass to either side with stick denying return pass.
4. F2 move challenge a return pass to the mid point and F1 FALL UNDER and replace F2.
5. F1-F2 continue this tandem rotation with mid slot coverage when the puck high.
6. F1 or F2 pressure down if the attacker is at the half boards.
7.
Defense Rotation:
1. Attackers set up at mid point in a high umbrella and defense start together in the low slot.
2. Puck is moved to one side D1 moves toward that side and D2 stays in the middle.
3. When puck is moved to the other side D2 move to that side and D1 to the middle.
4. D1 and D2 keep their sticks in the dangerous passing lanes and be ready to block shots.
Walk Through 4 on 5:
1. Set up in a 1-3-1 power play and 1-3 penalty kill.
2. Start from the mid point and had a controlled scrimmage of 5-4.
3. Divide the defensive zone into four quadrants of responsibility; F1-F2 high, D1-D2 low.
4. F1 pressure down the wall with the stick denying a pass to the point.
5. F2 pressure a return pass to the point and F1 fall under and cover the mid slot.
6. Play a low press if the puck moves from the half boards down.
7. Constantly decide whether to pressure or contain.

B6 - Five Shots x 2 – College
Key Points:
Pass hard while skating, face the puck and give a target, shoot while skating and follow the shot for a rebound. The same sequence is done from both ends staring from diagonal corners.
Description:
1. White forwards at one end and white D at the far blue line. Red F and D opposite.
2. F1 skate and pass to D1 then open up for a regroup pass at the red line.
3. D1 pass to F1 who skates in and shoot from the wide lane.
4. F2 leave from the same corner, skate and pass to D1 who passes to D2.
5. F2 cross the red line and mirror the puck for a pass from D2 then skate and shoot.
6. F3 leave from the opposite corner, regroup with D2 and shoot from the wide lane.
7. D1-D2 skate up to the blue line.
8. F1 get a puck from the corner and pass to D1 who shoots.
9. F1 pass another puck to D1 who passes across to D2 who shoots.
10. F1-F2-F3 have a net presence.

Key Points:
Practice the low breakout skills first with the goalies passing and they versus no pressure and regroup with the goalies in the neutral zone, then against pressure. Player one skate between the dots before passing.
Description:
Sequence One:
1. Set up with one player on each side of the net to make the breakout passes.
2. Player 1 pass to player 2 beside the net then skate for a breakout pass.
3. Players 1 pass then swing to the boards for a pass, then pass to player at the red line.
4. Player 1 pass to the player on the other side and skate low and slow for a pass to the middle.
5. Player 1 pass to the far low player and pick up a wide rim along the boards.
Sequence Two:
6. Player 1 pass and go to wall for rim and player 2 support low and slow for a touch back pass.
7. Add the coach or a player who just did a rep pinch on the boards.
8. Four players leave, 1 dump and retrieve, 2 on boards, 3 low and slow and 4 pressure one player.
9. Player 1 wheel behind the net and pass to either player 2 on wall or player 3 low and slow.
10. Players line up at the top of the circles and goalies at the red line ready to pass.
11. Player 1 shoot the puck in, retrieve and pass to player 2 who supports ‘Low and Slow’.
12. Regroup with the goalie who passes back to the other player.
13. Player 1 now pass to player 2 who supports from the boards - pass to goalie.
14. Player 1 pass to player 2 who ‘Jack Hammers’ the puck back to 1 then to goalie.

Key Points:
Goalie make a firm pass. Defense play a tight gap and forward back pressure from inside the dot and avoid hooking the puck carrier.
Description:
1. Start from diagonal corners.
2. Goalie pass to the forward at the hash mark.
3. Defenseman start at the top of circle and forward back pressure from the bottom of the circle.
4. Defenseman play a tight gap and close on the puck carrier early.
5. Forward back pressure and pick up the loose puck or the attacker if he beats the D.
6. Forward back pressure all the way and be the low forward in the defensive zone.
7. Forward pass to the goalie after picking up the loose puck.
8. The drill is done from both ends.

T2 - Johnston PP Game vs 1 or 2 PK – College M
Key Points:
Power play must move the puck quickly and give support in the open lanes. Pass receiver needs to move and be a scoring threat to force the pk player to defend him. Killers go 7-10” as hard as they can to disrupt the attack.
Description:
1. Whites set up the power play in the offensive zone.
2. Red team leaves from outside the blue line starting with one defender.
3. Defender skate hard for 7-10” with stick in passing lanes and toe caps square.
4. Play a game taking turns having 5’ power plays. Keep score.
5. Defenders rotate on the whistle.
6. Rotate so Reds are on the PP and Whites on the PK.
7. Whites now do the PP vs. two defenders.
* This game can be used for other offensive situations from 2 to 6 attackers to promote quick thinking and close puck support.

B6 - 3-0 Pass-2F-1D Shoot – College - M
Key Points:
Exchange crisp passes and defense bounce the puck off the boards so the forward catches it in full stride. Progress to adding pressure and being more game like.
Description:
1. D1 and F1-F2 leave from diagonal corners.
2. D1 skate backwards exchanging passes with F1-F2.
3. At the far blue line F1 pick up a new puck, skate in, shoot, look for a rebound.
4. F2 swing to the far lane and get a bounce pass off the boards from D1.
5. F2 skate in and shoot in stride while F1 screens.
6. D1 follow the attack to the blue line.
7. F2 pick up a new puck in the corner and make escape moves then pass to the point.
8. D1 shoot, F1 screen, F2 go to the net for a shot pass and rebound.
*Add D1 defend vs. the next shooter and F2 pressure the second shooter in the corner then play the rebound 2-2 low until the whistle.

B4 - Cross and Drop Sequence - College
Key Points:
Players are inside the middle circle. Two players skate around and cross and drop then 2 from the other group leave.
Leave the puck when dropping and the second player skate behind. Return to line from the wide lanes to avoid collisions.
Description:
1. Two players from one colour skate around the circle and cross and drop then 2 start in the opposite direction.
2. Drop the puck on the other side of circle.
3. Stay onside and 4 shoot then both rebound
4. #3 pass to 4 who drives to the net.
5. #2 cross blueline and pass right away to #1 who one times the shot. Both rebound.
Options:
a. One, two or three players leave at a time.
b. After shooting one or two players defend the next rush, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3.
c. Give + go with last shooters. Etc.
d. Add another cross and drop inside the blue line.

Key Points:
Pass with a heel to toe rotation and cushion the pass then catch and receive. Use various passing options.
Description:
1. Leave from 3 lines at opposite ends below the face-off circle.
2. Player 1-2 from each line exchange passes while skating toward the other lineup.
3. Pass to 3 at the front of the far lineup.
4. Player 1 in the outside lanes turn towards the boards and turn to the player box in the middle.
5. Change task to one skate back and one forward.
6. Change to skate to the inside and pass to the outside.
7. Practice other passing skills, such and cross and drop.
8. Goalies warm up at one end.
